Child care for special needs in Fargo-Moorhead

What does "Nokomis" mean?

Nokomis Child Care Center was founded in 1971 by the Fargo-Moorhead Indian Association in response to the sense that there was a lack of affordable, quality educational child care for the local Indian population. The name, “Nokomis,” is the Native American word for grandmother, and reflects the center’s early mission of providing care to the children of Indian families. Today, Nokomis serves a very diverse ethnic population.
