FARGO – The Village Family Service Center has achieved national accreditation through the New York-based Council on Accreditation (COA). The Village provides behavioral health services, such as counseling, addiction treatment, in-home family therapy, mentoring, financial counseling, and adoption services, in 15 communities across North Dakota and Minnesota.
COA accreditation is an objective, independent, and reliable validation of an agency’s performance. The accreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of an organization’s administration, management, and service delivery functions against international standards of best practice.
These standards ensure that services are well-coordinated, culturally competent, evidence-based, outcomes-oriented, and provided by a skilled, supported workforce.
“We are pleased to have received this confirmation of the quality of the services that we provide every day,” said The Village’s President and CEO Doug Vang. “Our continuous COA accreditation since 1982 and positive comments by the peer reviewers serve as a testament to the high caliber of our work, which benefits our clients and the communities we serve. To achieve COA accreditation, The Village first provided written evidence of compliance with the COA standards. A group of specially trained volunteer peer reviewers then conducted a series of on-site interviews with trustees, staff and clients. Based on their findings, COA’s volunteerbased Accreditation Commission voted that The Village had successfully met its criteria.
Founded in 1977, COA is an independent, not-for-profit accreditor of the full continuum of community-based behavioral health care and social service organizations in the United States and Canada. The Village has been serving kids and families since 1891. In addition to COA accreditation, The Village is a Charities Review Council Meets Standards organization, a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, Inc., the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, Inc., Alliance for Children and Families, and Big Brothers Big Sisters America, and several of its locations are approved sites through the National Health Service Corps
