First Step Recovery Expands Programing to Include Virtual Format

Fargo, ND – First Step Recovery, a program of The Village Family Service Center, is expanding access to addiction treatment by offering its nine-hour-a-week programming in a virtual format. Starting in February, clients can receive comprehensive, confidential addiction treatment from the comfort of their own homes, eliminating geographical barriers and increasing accessibility for those in need.

First Step Recovery is licensed to provide high-quality outpatient addiction treatment for adults, offering a supportive, respectful environment where individuals learn the tools and life skills necessary for long-term recovery. This program is designed for clients who have alcohol or other drug problems that significantly affect their lives.

"We believe that individuals with substance use disorders can manage this disease and regain control of their lives," says Tonya Sorenson, Program Director at The Village. "By bringing First Step Recovery online, we’re ensuring that more people have the opportunity to begin their recovery journey with professional support, no matter where they are."

About the Virtual IOP
The First Step Recovery Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) consists of nine hours per week of structured treatment, including group education, coping skills, and individual therapy with their counselor. The program follows ASAM 2.1 Level of Care guidelines, ensuring evidence-based treatment tailored to each client’s progress and goals. This offering is specifically for the day IOP program for clients where access to treatment is a barrier due to distance.

Virtual IOP Requirements
•    Participants must have access to a hospital or approved drug screen site for an observed drug screen.
•    Weekly attendance with video cameras on is required to ensure engagement.
•    Clients must be focused and actively participate in sessions.
•    Worksheets and materials will be provided via email.
•    All sessions are conducted through Zoom.
